How the NDIS works, step by step.
From your first application to every plan review. What actually happens, how long it takes, and what to prepare at each stage.
Four stages, no surprises.
- 01
Check eligibility and apply
Confirm you meet the age, residency and disability requirements, then submit an Access Request to the NDIA with evidence from your treating professionals.
Where we fit: We can sanity-check your evidence before you send it, so nothing gets bounced for missing detail.
- 02
The planning conversation
A planner or Local Area Coordinator meets you to talk through your daily life, goals and support needs. Your first plan is built from this conversation.
Where we fit: We help you prepare: what to raise, what evidence to bring, and how to describe a hard day honestly.
- 03
Your plan is approved
Funding is allocated across up to three budgets: Core, Capacity Building and Capital. You choose how each part of your plan is managed.
Where we fit: We walk you through what each budget can pay for, so nothing sits unused.
- 04
Use your supports, then review
Choose providers, sign service agreements, and start. Plans are reviewed on a cycle, and you can request an early review if life changes.
Where we fit: We track outcomes with you and prepare review evidence, so your next plan reflects real needs.
What to prepare before you apply.
The single biggest difference between a plan that works and a plan that falls short is preparation. Bring these five things and you are ahead of most applicants.
- Reports from your GP, specialists or allied health professionals
- A list of the support you receive now, paid and unpaid
- Notes on what a good week and a hard week look like
- Your goals: small, honest and specific beats grand and vague
- A trusted person to join your planning meeting if you want backup
